Shoe Review: Brooks Hyperion Elite 2

It’s funny. Since I can remember, I always avoided thicker, more padded shoes. I knew they served a specific purpose, however I never felt that I really needed anything so cushioned. I also always assumed that a thicket shoe would be freakin’ heavy AF. It’s cute how wrong and naive I was.

This past summer I decided I would train for a marathon. This meant my little Adidas Ultraboosts probably wouldn’t cut it. I knew it was finally time to upgrade and treat my feet to those cushioned running shoes. I went to my local running shop, Varsity Sports, and tried on soooo many shoes and settled on the Brooks Hyperion Elite Pro. Honestly, I probably shouldn’t use the word “settle” because this isn’t a shoe you just settle with. These were the shoes that made me realize that a thick, cushioned shoe doesn’t mean a heavy shoe.

Ultraboosts are around 11 oz for the older models while this thick ass beautiful unicorn of a shoe only weighs 7.6 oz. (Don’t yell at me if that’s not the exact weight of the boosts. Either way, the Brooks are lighter. Case closed.)

I tried on the Hyperion Elite 2’s and dayummmm. I knew these were going to be the shoes I walked out the store with. They have such a comfortable ride and I could easily imagine running many many… many… miles in them.

  • Midsole stack height has been increased by 2mm for enhanced cushioning

  • DNA FLASH will maintain cushioning and responsiveness for 200-400 miles, just like daily trainers

Honestly, 9/10 on these shoes. I think the only reason it’s not a 10/10 because I like to think a shoe that is 10/10 will be electric, run for me, and guarantee a PR every time.
