Introduction
Hey everyone! This blog has been a LONG time coming. I’m so so SO thankful for the RUN WITH AIM group on Facebook that has encouraged me to be better, run slower, and enjoy life a little. One of my greatest passions has always been writing. Am I good at it? Nah, not really. But this will be fun, so BE EXCITED.
So an introduction is in order. I’m Amy of Amy Geauxs Running! Yes, I realize geaux isn’t spelled normal. But, if you lived in Louisiana you’d know that’s the only way to spell it. I’m currently in school for Computer Science at Southeastern Louisiana University. I grew up about 35 minutes outside of New Orleans, and am currently residing in Baton Rouge with my boyfriend and our doberman.
I’ve always been a competitive person. I played soccer and softball when I was younger, and eventually became an equestrian. Once I started riding horses, I decided to drop all other sports and focus on the equestrian life. Because of the expenses and the occasional seizure, I had to put up my spurs and focus on my health. While having free time to travel and spend money on other things I enjoy is great, I realized I didn’t understand how to NOT be active in a sport. That’s when I decided running was my next chapter.
Running is so accessible and can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it. An open road and clearance tennis shoes to international marathons and all the carbon plated tennis shoes one could dream of. Running has always been a family affair (Yes. We were that family to run a 5k on thanksgiving morning, but to be fair: champagne always followed. We can like races and still be fun, okay?), and it’s has always been a fun way to get everyone together.
So, the next 5 years I would going back and forth between training for races and drinking wine on the couch. Then the pandemic happened, and running seized completely. That’s what sparked the idea of training for a marathon. I have done half marathons in the past but something about being completely crazy and finally doing a full sounded so BADASS to me. And once again, completely crazy. So, I did what anyone would do. I signed up for a marathon at my peak laziness in hopes that this will kick my butt back into running and taking care of my body.
He’s to bettering my physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing!
